I feel an affinity to birds, particularly the small common varieties such as sparrows, finches, and wrens. They represent a tenuous situation in nature. They are common but beautiful, delicate and resilient, free yet also susceptible to circumstance. The only perception that we are any different is defined by ego. All are brought into the world without consent and slaves to the fate nature delivers. A small bird instinctively confronts adversity and succeeds against natures indifference. A tiny package of survival, no whining.
